Mothers News cartoonist and celebrated artíste graphíque CF has been pumping out excellent zines in limited quantity lately! last month he dropped “EXTREME COMICS” and “AWOL”, both very nice entries into the field (that field being “nice books of drawings”). pretty raw, but also well trimmed, well maintained. sushi? fruit salad? anyway pretty sure both are SOLD OUT. you might fare better with this month’s offerings: WORST COMICS and EASTER MERCURY. stamped edition of 50 from the lad’s own Fantasy Empire press. not sure how long this trend will continue so catch while can!

Mothers News and Friends at BCGF!

yaaaaaaaa check it out!!!!!! come visit “Mothers News and Friends” at the Brooklyn Comics and Gravestones Festival December 3rd. it’ll be: Jacob Berendes, Mickey Zacchilli, Mike Taylor, James McShane, and maybe accessory character Tom Bubul, all crammed in a crook next to CF, Brian Chippendale, and the Picturebox dudes. Charles Forsman and Melissa Mendes are going to be there too! we’ll be playing dice and carrying on, come say hi!

Charles Forsman: Peanuts + JAWS!!!!!!

Charles Forsman has done it again! Following the genius and artistry of his popular Indiana Jones as Popeye print is this new beautiful print of JAWS as Peanuts! As before, the story is not told in its entirety, but as a series of scenes boiled down and poured into the new mold. You can buy the print for just $20 at Forsman’s own Oily Boutique, and read more about it on his blog.

Charles is a truly splendid cartoonist with a deep love for old comics and an amazing eye for style and nuance. You can catch his monthly comic strip Witch Beach (about a family of witches who live on a beach) in Mothers News.

Charlotte DeSedouy

Charlotte DeSedouy has a comic strip starting in the next issue of Mothers News. It’s called “Théâtre Carton”, which is French for “Cardboard Theatre”. I had to sit down with her and explain “the comic strip” because she’s from France, where there aren’t newspaper comics? Is this true? Anyway I told her that the important part is that there’s some characters that you like, and they interact in regular ways, and it isn’t ha ha funny, but you enjoy seeing them do their thing. I just saw the first installment, and, well, let’s just say she did a really great job!

Charlotte is a great drawer of thick legs and people carrying things. Her website is Que se passe-t-il?, and there are a lot of great pictures of her stuff! Here’s one more for your mind:

Brian Chippendale has a new comic strip, “A Trophy Life” (or “Atrophy Life”?) that will be published exclusively in Mothers News starting in the July issue.

Graveyard Ducks!

Huge news! Mothers News is adding a comics page! And the lineup so far is completely incredible, AS THOUGH FROM A DREAM! Pictured above is the character sheet from Mickey Zacchilli‘s NEW totally brilliant comic strip “Graveyard Ducks”. I don’t want to say too much, but the lineup of talent on this is MAJOR. And we’re not talking about psychedelic art comics here, we’re talking about REAL newspaper comics format- characters, tropes, gags… you know, THE FUNNIES.

OK, I’ll say 1 more because it should be obvious- CF is drawing an exclusive strip called “Monorail High”, set in a high school. “Also there’s a janitor”.

Subscriptions are HIGHLY recommended.
