who advertises in Mothers News?

thanks to Tom we now have a nice spreadsheet of all past Mothers News advertisers. over the past 2 years there have been 208 unique advertisers, most of whom took out multiple months of ads. plenty of businesses, bands, websites, artists, restuarants, bars, “i don’t know what this is”es, and naturally, whatevers. thanks everyone!!! this pic is the tail end of that list, sorted alphabetically by business type. i like yoga alright, but it’s kind of disappointing that yoga has a 1 point lead over witches… of course you have to bear in mind that this is “type of business”, not a demographic breakdown- there were plenty of witch-owned and -operated businesses that advertised in Mothers News, but only 2 of them catered specifically to witches… still… LET’S GO, WITCHES!!!!

some CF autorarities (limiteds)

Mothers News cartoonist and celebrated artíste graphíque CF has been pumping out excellent zines in limited quantity lately! last month he dropped “EXTREME COMICS” and “AWOL”, both very nice entries into the field (that field being “nice books of drawings”). pretty raw, but also well trimmed, well maintained. sushi? fruit salad? anyway pretty sure both are SOLD OUT. you might fare better with this month’s offerings: WORST COMICS and EASTER MERCURY. stamped edition of 50 from the lad’s own Fantasy Empire press. not sure how long this trend will continue so catch while can!

some nice drawings

some nice drawings in books from Al Burian, who I saw last night give a talk (re: Success) at New Urban Arts, and Sam McPheeters, who we did that reading with, the day before. nice to see some classics in the old town! Al was selling his new zine for $6, and it came with 2 free tacos, which were delicious! this deal not available in the mail, probably. the new one was printed in America by Caroline Paquita, who got a big round of applause when her name was mentioned.

it went well

thanks to everyone who came out to the reading yesterday! it went pretty good i think! katrina was awesome, v manuscript slayyyyyyyed (!!!!!) and i got up and said some stuff, got some laffs. sam mcpheeters of course was funny, reading from his new novel. i only got 1 pic, of katrina- note that the stage area is designed to look like the Black Lodge!

anyway, it was a good trial run for the Mothers News speaking tour later this spring, now booking… if you want the Mothers News editors to do a reading / lecture in your town or at your college, let me know! it’ll be fun and engaging and mellow and profitable.

Sam is on tour behind his new book, “Loom Of Ruin”, but you may know him as the singer of BORN AGAINST, speaker of MEN’S RECOVERY PROJECT, and singer once again of WRANGLER BRUTES, whose double 8″ record is the dumbest format I own (and a great record). Marvel in wonder as mouths move, forming words out the voices that issue forth from within.
